The line “Dale limosna, mujer, que no hay en la vida nada como la pena de ser ciego en Granada” was written by the Mexican poet, Francisco de Icaza (1863–1925). An English translation is: Give him alms, woman, for there is no greater sorrow in life than to be blind in Granada". The plaque is located in the Alcazaba near the Torre de la Pólvora.
