The Barrio Castrense was constructed as a military barracks. It is located in the Alhambra's Alcazaba (fortress). Its name translates to "Military Quarter" in Arabic.
The soldiers stationed here were tasked with protecting the Alhambra and monitoring the city. The walls are the remains of houses which were inhabited by the elite guards of the Alhambra, along with their families.
