Some people ask if there is a beach with golden sand near Granada. Due to the geology of the area the beaches around Granada tend to have dark coloured sand. In the photo we can see the Playa de Costa Tropical (Beach of the Tropical Coast). This is a perfectly good beach for sun bathing and in the summer it gets very busy. The sea gets deep very quickly. Most people would be out of their depth after only 3 or 4 metres from the water edge. There are wilder beaches on the other side of la Herradura and there is a nudest beach at Playa de los Muertos on the other side of Almuñecar just after the Paseo de Cotrobro.
