What do all the Arabic writing and inscriptions mean?

One of the most common questions asked by visitors to the Alhambra is "What do all the Arabic writing and inscriptions mean? There has recently been a lot of study of the inscriptions and we now know a lot more than before. The most common sentence is "There is no victor but Allah" – which is repeated hundreds of times on walls, arches and columns. Isolated words like "happiness" or "blessing" recur and are seen seen as divine expressions protecting the monarch or governors of the time. There are lots of Aphorisms ( concise, memorable expression of a general truth or principle) for example "Rejoice in good fortune, because Allah helps you," and "Be sparse in words and you will go in peace."
