Alcazaba (Torre de la Vela) - at night

This is the Alcazaba which in English is translated as Kasbah. This confused me because in the song by the English group The Clash called "Rock the Kasbah" I imagined that it meaned "souk" or some part of an Arabic city. This is correct but  the word  "kasbah" or "Alcazaba" in Spanish has two meanings. It can be a fortress, most commonly the citadel or fortified quarter of a city.  The word kasbah may also be used to describe the old part of a city, in which case it has the same meaning as a medina quarter.

In the case of the Alhambra the Alcazaba is a fortress where the soldiers used to live. It is the oldest surviving part of the Alhambra. This tower is visible from most of the city and its large terrace allows for commanding views of the area. The main tower you can see in this photo is called. Torre de la Vela

Notes:
"Rock the Casbah" is a song by the English punk rock band The Clash, released in 1982. The song was released as the second single from their fifth album, Combat Rock. It reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US (their only top 10 single in the United States) and, along with the track "Mustapha Dance", it also reached number eight on the dance chart.
